S2 Ep2: In a Nutshell

Maturation unfolding from the roots to the fruits

Welcome to Attachment Matters.

Attachment Matters is a conversation between two mothers who are passionate about the subject of attachment, and how in parenting our children, we are offered the opportunity to grow ourselves up. This presents unique challenges to parents of children, adolescents, and young adults who adopt a transgender identity. Our hope is to offer greater insight into how to strengthen the attachment between parents and their children, despite all odds.

In this episode, Rose describes the 3 key components of Neufeld’s Maturation Theory, and the universal potentialities meant to bear fruit in every person as development unfolds. We invite our listeners to trust this process, have faith in nature’s design, and focus on providing the conditions that allow for growth to unfold. StoicMom pulls in some ideas from James Hillman’s acorn theory, and we both express wonder at the exquisite beauty of the intelligence of life and the human experience.

Questions for Reflection: What, if anything, has influenced you to see humans as being born with an innate potential and design vs. seeing humans as being blank slates? How do you see these two different world views at play in the way we see ourselves, our loved ones, and the larger world around us?
